There are many opportunities to get some fresh air, exercise, and to shake the "cabin fever" we all experience. Here are some suggestions for encouraging you to feel better:
If you are house bound, ask your friends or family to bring in some potted plants. Odorless are best. You can either grow them yourself or enjoy them already in bloom.
Check with your physician about sun exposure. You may enjoy sitting in a sunny window during the day. When the temperatures warm up, have someone help you outside and sit in a padded lounge chair, cover up with a blanket. Just sitting outside watching the birds or traffic can refresh your spirit.
If you are more ambulatory, go for a ride with a friend or family member.
A walk through a mall may give you needed exercise, or if you need a wheelchair to conserve energy, remember that malls do loan them for free!
If you are physically able, then get outside on nice days and go for a walk. A 20 minute walk, three times a week, will provide enough exercise to keep your heart and lungs in good shape, as well as help strengthen your back, tummy and legs.
Bike riding is also great exercise. The hardest part of exercise is getting started. Start slow and easy. Soon you will be feeling great.
Area attractions, such as the art gallery, museum, zoo, aquarium, movie theater, and botanical gardens are great places to enjoy and get exercise, too! |
